Krka National Park

Essential information to help you make the most of your visit to Krka National Park in 2026:

Choosing the right entrance

  • Lozovac Entrance: The largest entrance with free parking. From here, park buses take you directly to Skradinski Buk (the ride takes about 10 minutes). Ideal if you want to reach the waterfalls quickly.
  • Skradin Entrance: The most scenic access point. From the town of Skradin, you travel by boat (included in the ticket price) through the canyon to the waterfall. Perfect for those who want to enjoy a panoramic ride.

Don’t miss these highlights

  1. Skradinski Buk: The largest and most famous waterfall. A circular walking trail (approx. 2 km) runs around it, featuring wooden footbridges and an easy, pleasant walk.
  2. Roški Slap: A quieter part of the park, known for the “Necklaces” cascades and the Oziđana Cave, which can be reached by climbing 517 steps (the view is incredible).
  3. Visovac Island: A Franciscan monastery set in the middle of the lake. It can be reached by a short boat ride from Stinice or as part of longer excursions from Skradinski Buk.
  4. Eno-gastronomic heritage: At Skradinski Buk, visit the restored watermills where you can see demonstrations of traditional crafts and purchase local products.

Helpful tips:

  • Swimming in Krka National Park is prohibited at all locations in order to preserve the ecosystem
  • Online tickets: It is recommended to purchase tickets in advance via the official website, especially in July and August, as the number of visitors at any given time is limited.
  • Krka Hike & Bike: If you enjoy an active holiday, the park offers over 470 km of cycling routes and 22 hiking trails.

If you want to avoid the crowds that are common at Skradinski Buk, Krka National Park offers fantastic, lesser-known trails, mainly in the middle and upper course of the river.

4 best trails to escape the crowds:

1. Stinice – Roški Slap – Oziđana Cave Trail

This is probably the most beautiful educational trail in the park. Length: 8.5 km (one way). You’ll walk through dense forest, pass the “Necklaces” cascades of Roški Slap, and reach the highlight — a climb up 517 steps to the Oziđana Cave. The view over the canyon from the top is spectacular, and there are significantly fewer visitors than in the lower part of the park. The trail is of moderate difficulty due to the final ascent.

2. Roman Road Trail (Carićevci – Manojlovac Waterfalls)

This trail is located in the northern part of the park, near the archaeological site of Burnum. Length: Approximately 2–3 km. It leads to viewpoints offering the best view of the Manojlovac Waterfall, the highest waterfall of the Krka River (59.6 m). The area is peaceful and quiet, with raw and untouched nature. On nearby rocks, you’ll find a commemorative plaque dedicated to Emperor Franz Joseph I, who once admired the view from this spot.

3. Circular Trail around Krka Monastery (Carigradska Draga)

A peaceful and spiritual trail in the upper course of the river. Length: 2.1 km (circular). You walk through lush vegetation along the river all the way to the Orthodox Krka Monastery. The path is flat, easy, and ideal for a quiet, meditative walk. You can also visit the catacombs beneath the monastery.

4. Trail to Ključica Fortress (Brnjica)

For lovers of history and dramatic canyon landscapes. Length: Approximately 1.6 km (to the viewpoint). The trail leads to a viewpoint overlooking Ključica, the largest and best-preserved medieval fortress in the park, built above the Čikola River canyon (a tributary of the Krka). Very few visitors are aware of this location.

Tip: For these trails (except Stinice), you will need a car, as the entrances (e.g., Burnum, Kistanje, Brnjica) are 20–30 minutes’ drive apart.
